One year ago today…WFH commenced!

I can’t believe that one year ago today my team started working from home and there they have stayed.  We took the Government guidance seriously as I knew we needed to do as much as we possibly could to reduce risk to the warehouse and transport teams, who needed to stay on site. If we didn’t, we could have jeopardised our entire company operation and ultimately let down our customers, which simply wasn’t an option.

Luckily I was given some foresight, you know someone, who knows someone, who knows something is going to happen – one of those scenarios!  So I had already taken the wise steps to get our office teams set up to be able to remote into our systems from home should they need to.

I still remember the sleepless nights thinking everything through and worrying. I also remember going to the site once a week and feeling like the world had come to an end, with barely a vehicle on the road.

We’ve missed a lot this year, our one-to-one and team meetings.  Our summer and Christmas parties. Birthday cakes and chats in the office – but mainly the being together and company comradery.

Thankfully, our daily 10 am Teams call has kept us all in touch and made sure we haven’t forgotten what we all look like, but it still isn’t the same as being together in person, or maybe that is just me, maybe I prefer being with people rather than being with tech?!

Are you looking forward to getting back to the office or do you think you will continue with the WFH tech approach?
