Since our Quality Manager retired, we've been recruiting for their replacement. What has surprised me most is just how challenging recruitment has become.

In the first three days alone, we received 118 applications. On the face of it, that sounds fantastic, but it brings its own challenges. Many applicants were based outside a practical commuting distance for an office-based role.

Then there's the reality of the recruitment process itself. Some applicants apply and never respond. Some confirm interviews and don't attend. Others disappear.

Finding candidates with the right skills is one thing. Finding people with the right attitude, work ethic, and genuine interest in the opportunity can be even harder.

I'd genuinely value feedback from my network. Are you finding recruitment more challenging than ever, or is it just us?

We're based in an area with very low unemployment and are surrounded by major employers around DIRFT and the wider region, so local market conditions may play a part.

Have you noticed changes in the quality, quantity or engagement of applicants in recent years? What challenges are you facing when trying to attract and retain the right people?
