From soaring temperatures to soaring deliveries

With temperatures hitting near 40 degrees last week, Monday to Wednesday were very quiet, with little being shipped out of our warehouse. Due to the extreme heat, our warehouse teams worked an early shift allowing them to finish just after lunch to avoid working in the escalating afternoon temperatures.

We found many of our customers did the same, with some deciding not to operate at all on Monday and Tuesday. Resulting in this week being twice as busy as normal. This is unusual, as typically the last couple of days of the month are quiet. Most customers want their deliveries to arrive at the start of the month; budget management normally impacts delivery schedules.

So, we’ve been filling up the pallet network’s articulated vehicles this week. On that note, we have some more vehicle news. Soon we’ll be adding not one but two new vehicles to the PurePac fleet.  Due to the pandemic, there’s been a long delay on the delivery, so I’m looking forward to sharing news on this soon.

The new vehicles will have super-powered in-cab air conditioning, which is handy. As according to weather experts, we should expect further heatwaves and of course, we want to keep our top drivers cool when delivering our customers’ packaging.

Let me know how your operations coped last week, did you change your working hours or close operations? Or did you sweat it out?
